Harness the wind to power your automobile, make a lighter aircraft by exploiting the strength of nano fibers thinner than a hair, or determine the optimal route of a cargo ship through wind and current-laden seas. Mechanical engineering is a broad, versatile and creative discipline concerned with conversion of energy to useful work; the design and production of machines; and the interaction of solids, liquids and gases. A mechanical engineering degree provides a solid technical foundation for careers in fields as wide-ranging as automotive, alternative energy, defense, medicine, patent law, manufacturing and aerospace.

At Wayne State's College of Engineering, you'll learn from nationally renowned faculty experts and benefit from our high-impact practices of student success: hands-on experience, global perspective, undergraduate research, internships and co-ops, and community engagement.

Classes at WSU taught me how to learn challenging topics quickly and how to pull together a team to accomplish a big project. I utilize both of these concepts frequently in my day-to-day work.
