CareerCraft workshops
CareerCraft is a series of stackable workshops that bridge the gap between traditional academics and rapidly evolving industry requirements, equipping individuals with the necessary skills and expertise to integrate novel semiconductor-based technologies in the automotive industry.
Wayne State University's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is offering four free hybrid workshops this spring. The workshops will focus on critical areas in the automotive electronics field: semiconductor engineering, circuit design, power electronics, and printed-circuit-board.
Workshops will consist of virtual workshops and hands-on in person sessions at Wayne State campus.
Each workshop will have a maximum capacity of 30 participants. The organizing committee will evaluate the applications and make selections.
The application deadline for the initial workshop is April 5, 2025.

Semiconductors and Sensors for Automotives
This workshop is designed to address the increasing demand for professionals with semiconductors and sensor technology expertise in the automotive industry. The curriculum covers fundamental semiconductor engineering concepts, advanced sensor technologies used in automotive systems, as well as EV-specific concepts such as battery systems and control systems, to provide engineers with the essential theoretical foundation, practical skills, and industry-relevant knowledge required to succeed in this field. Printed circuit board design is an essential skill for hardware engineers looking upskill and find in-demand careers. This workshop is being offered in partnership with the Printed Circuit Engineering Association (PCEA), a nonprofit organization stewarding the US PCB industry. It is a condensed version of PCEAs 40-hour Printed Circuit Professional (PCP) course, which was developed by leading experts in printed circuit engineering and layout. It will cover a broad overview of key topics in PCB design, including circuit definition and capture, board layout and placement, materials and manufacturing methods, and signal integrity/EMI. This workshop will introduce high-power semiconductor devices (diodes, MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, GaN, etc.), their terminal characteristics, and applications in various power converters for electric vehicles and renewable energy systems, cover fundamentals of power converters, electric motor drives, introduce electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), EMC standards (CISPR 25), and microcontroller programming, and showcase with demonstration laboratory sessions on conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing and digital signal processing (DSP) programming for power electronic converters.
