A creative, hands-on discipline with a strong math component, electrical and computer engineering teaches students to work with controls, computer systems, telecommunications, fiber optics, remote sensors, circuits and more. In this field, basic physical and mathematical principles are utilized to develop new devices, technologies and techniques of constantly broadening application, including automotive, energy, defense and health care.
Graduates can expect positive career outcomes as well. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of electrical and computer engineers and computer hardware engineers is expected to grow 5% from 2022-2032. Engineers in these fields report a median salary between $109,010 and $138,080 per year.
With all the experiences I gained at Wayne State University, I am confident I am prepared to successfully contribute to product development at a high-tech company or lead students and research teams at a research intensive university.
