Research and faculty
Our students are positioned to provide leadership in emerging growth areas that will shape the future, including:
- Battery technology
- Biomaterials and tissue engineering
- Catalysis
- Computational thermodynamics
- Drug and gene delivery
- Polymer and colloidal engineering
- Sustainable systems engineering
Our faculty's vast expertise and pioneering research tackles grand challenges of chemical engineering and materials science.
Wayne State's clean room facilities and laboratory equipment are resources for creating a wide variety of nano- and micro-scale materials and packaging to produce small-scale biological devices. Sustainability is also a priority for the department, requiring a holistic view of the environment and how to manage research and development projects without contributing to its degradation.
Highlights
Our lab uses a multidisciplinary approach to understand biological interfaces and to engineer therapeutic solutions to problems, including diabetes, cancers, and general medical issues.
