Global perspective

Detroit, known for having one of the highest concentrations of engineers in the U.S., stands as a global powerhouse with the intellectual strength to drive the automotive, manufacturing, advanced technology, and healthcare industries forward. As more products are either designed in the U.S. and manufactured abroad, or vice versa, it becomes crucial for engineering students to develop a global perspective, understanding diverse cultures and the far-reaching impact of their work.

Of the 3,450 engineering students, 79% come from Michigan, while 472 students from 36 countries contribute to the campus's international diversity. These students thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment, benefiting from the most diverse campus in Michigan. Wayne State's influence extends worldwide through its 30,000 engineering alumni, who reside in nearly 50 countries, further showcasing the university's global reach.

Global experience programs build strong connections between Wayne State and international partner institutions, offering engineering students opportunities to collaborate with peers from around the world. These programs allow students to travel abroad, immerse themselves in different cultures, conduct research alongside international scholars, gain global industry experience, participate in internships, and engage in service learning initiatives such as social entrepreneurship. These experiences enhance students’ cultural awareness, language proficiency, and career prospects, setting Wayne State graduates apart in the global marketplace.
