Biography

Doug has an extensive Information Technology background which spans over 30 years. He has been a programmer, application engineer, and security consultant. Doug led many large-scale enterprise projects, including the State of Michigan’s Health Information Exchange, part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) information side. Doug is a Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) who enjoys teaching Cyber Security and Computer Science. Doug teaches Systems Administration, Cyber Security, Ethical Hacking, and several programming-related courses. He has created new courses at Wayne State like Malware and Reverse Engineering along with Web Security: Hacking and Defense. Doug possesses a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. He is working towards a Ph.D. in Cyber Security from Capital Technology University.

Doug has started a Cyber Security club here at Wayne State to create a competitive, nationally recognized team. The team has placed 3rd in the state’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) for the past 2 years. The team also created its first Capture-The-Flag event that hosted over 260 individuals from all around the globe. Doug has led teams from Baker College Cyber Defense Club that won 4 of the last 5 State of Michigan Collegiate Cyber Defense and was an advisor on 2 National Championships.

In his free time enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, and playing acoustic guitar in the church band (however, he still needs lots of work).
