Median salaries for recent Wayne State engineering graduates in four departments rank among highest in U.S.

The earning potential for recent Wayne State University graduates in chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering is among the highest in the nation, according to new rankings issued by GradReports.com.

As part of its 2020 lists of the best colleges and graduate schools, GradReports.com ranked the top 25 median annual salaries of graduates one year out of college for bachelor's and master's programs in over 70 majors as well as 20 popular online programs.

Based on the U.S. Department of Education's early-career salary data of over five million graduates, Wayne State's electrical engineering bachelor's graduates earn the eighth-highest median annual salary among their peers from other institutions. With a reported salary of $75,400, Wayne State placed ahead of numerous schools in the state, including the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Oakland University, Michigan State University, Kettering University and Central Michigan University.

Wayne State's mechanical engineering bachelor's graduates ranked 11th with a reported median annual salary of $73,000, while chemical engineering ranked 12th at $73,400. Students who earned a master's in civil engineering from Wayne State reported a median annual salary of $71,900, ranked in a tie for eighth with the Georgia Institute of Technology.

According to GradReports.com, salary figures are representative of graduates from the subject area and degree level specified. The rankings also include the median total debt from College Scorecard, which represents the debt accumulated by student borrowers of federal loans who completed a degree in the indicated field of study. Both salary and total debt data are based on school-reported information about students' program of completion.
